Black Mountain Golf Club

   Course information:

  Designer: Phil Ryan

  Opened: 2007

  Holes: 18

  Par: 72

Course lengths: Black tees 7345, Blue tees 6502 and Red tees 5652

Black Mountain Golf Club was opened in 2007, just fourteen months after construction first started. The golf course is only a ten minutes drive from Hua Hin, but the setting is tranquil and secluded with beautiful views into the distance. The course has been carved out of jungle and pineapple plantations and the designer, Phil Ryan, has incorporated all the natural creeks, large rocks and trees into a visually stunning golf course.

The aim of the designer was to create a golf course that looks as natural as possible and maintains many of the features of the site. The most important features are the natural creeks that run throughout the course and the natural rocks that have been used as design features on many of the holes. As many of the original trees as possible have been kept and new trees have been planted to frame the holes. Very important in the design concept, was to create a course that could be a test for the top golfers in the world but also very playable and enjoyable to the average golfer. All the holes provide the golfer with a sate route but for the more adventurous player there is a higher risk option with a potential greater reward. The design offers generous fairways for the shorter hitter but becoming narrower for the longer hitter. The greens are large with many pin positions, with different degrees of difficulty, and the course is well protected by beautifully sculptured bunkers.

No expense has been spared to make the golf course as good as possible and the same is true of the clubhouse. The view from the clubhouse is truly stunning, and gives a panoramic view over the whole course. The clubhouse facilities on offer include fine dining in the restaurant, a well stocked pro shop and luxurious locker rooms. Black Mountain Golf Club offers service and dining to a standard that is normally only found in the finest hotels.

The golf course was opened in 1993. Roger Packard was awarded the task of designing this challenging and adventurous course. Lake View bears the hallmark of Mr. Packard in the form of copious mounds and depressions. This gives this course a unique landscape. This is a par 72, 36-hole course. The fairways "Bermuda 419", and the greens "Tiff Torf". The course is set in the escarpments and foothills of the mountain range, which divides Thailand from Burma. The site was originally a pineapple plantation; consequently, most of the natural vegetation had been cleared away.

This necessitated the transplantation of thousands of mature palms and other indigenous trees to transform the landscape into a mature vista of foliage and color. This is a course that will make the adrenaline flow. Dog legs, a few water hazards, and exceptionally well guarded Greens, provide a challenge for both the power hitter and the weekend enthusiast.
